The introduction of yoga props into the modern yoga practice was provided by none other than B. K. S. Iyengar. This was to allow practitioners access to the benefits of the postures regardless of experience, physical condition, or age.
One of the most central purposes for using yoga props is to address a need for support. Support to act as an extension of the body in order to receive the full benefits of the postures.
The support of a prop helpful when facing obstacles on the mat - as it facilitates meeting us where we are - on our mat on that day. A props will allow us to possibly acquire the pose over time while receiving benefits without overextending ourselves.
A happy benefit of prop use is simply that it is also fun! They allow us to practice a wide-range of postures that may not have been previously attainable as well as assist in pranayama (breath control) with greater ease and stability.
Join Laura, and she will introduce you to each prop, how it can be used to facilitate the support, function, and fun of various postures.
